Election 2009: Who will win in Andhra Pradesh?
WITH THE curtains having gone up for the 2009 general elections, political activity is in full swing in Andhra Pradesh, which has 42 Lok Sabha and 294 Assembly seats. Political leaders of new and old parties are busy discussing alignments with other parties and finalising candidates. Initially, it was presumed by many opinion poll surveys that the ruling Congress party would come back to power with a fair majority. But day by day as the campaign is rising to hi-pitch, the political equations are changing in the state and it is getting near to a close fight with TDP, TRS and Left Parties joining together as Grand Alliance (GA) and entry of the PRP (Praja Rajyam Party) with cine glamour and glitter into the fray. It seems very likely that Andhra Pradesh assembly is heading towards a hung assembly and as far as Lok Sabha seats are concerned they too will get mixed results.
The factors, which may affect the voting pattern, are:
1) Money: The power of money to influence the voters is immense in any elections so far in India and in this election where there seems to be a tug of war situation, the political parties have geared up for the pumping huge amounts of money. It is being reported in the media that political parties preferring to give tickets to those, who can spend huge sums of money to buy votes. They are inviting NRI funds and funds from industrialists. Perhaps this election would witness huge use of currency, in spite of the global meltdown.
2) Populist Schemes: In Andhra Pradesh the populist schemes like two kgs of rice, mid-day meal or free power to farmers, have always influenced the voting pattern. This time political parties have come up with fresh enticement schemes to influence the voters like the TDP has promised colour televisions and monetary support to middle and lower income groups, PRP has promised kitchen items for Rs.100, and free higher education, and the Congress party has promised free power to farmers and six kgs of rice to the poor.
3) Regionalism: All political parties have been trying to bank on the Telangana issue and it is not clear whether the issue will have the same sway this time also (in 2004 elections TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi) and Congress had promised separate statehood to Telangana), because all the parties some way or the other overtly expressed their consent for separate statehood. The frame of mind of the electorate in 2004 and during the by polls for the Karimnagar Lok sabha seat was clearly for the Telangana (sentiment). But the recent by polls showed a contrasting divided public opinion in this region. Moreover, with the entry of Chiranjeevi into politics, who has got great fan following in Telangana the votes may further split among the party combinations and it is unlikely that one single party or a combination will sweep all the seats. How the TDP after declaring that it’s not against formation of Telangana, will fare in Andhra and Rayalseema regions of the state is to be seen.
4) Communal and Caste Factors: In this election the caste equations are going to play a vital role in deciding the electoral result. So far in Andhra Pradesh, two dominant castes have ruled the state (ie, Reddys and Kammas). In Congress party ‘Reddys’ have got prominence and in TDP ‘Kammas’. Now Chiranjeevi is trying to win over the BC votes by giving them 100 plus seats to them. The split in caste based votes definitely changes the electoral outcome.
5) Party Alliances and Rebel Problem: TDP, TRS and left parties (CPI and CPM) have got into an alliance (ie, Grand Alliance) on a common understanding of defeating the Congress party in 2009 elections. The GA alliance has got a lot of problems over seat sharing and which place to contest, they have got the positive prospect of combined arithmetic strength of voting of these parties but the negative aspect is that a lot of candidates those who have not got tickets due to alliance factor will definitely work against the official alliance candidate. In this election the rebel candidates play a pivotal role in deciding the fate of the official party nominees. How far the parties will be able to cope with this problem is an intriguing aspect to be looked at. In fact, Congress party has decided to change the sitting MLAs, ministers and MPs, which has invited a lot of trouble in terms of rebel fighting and en masse exodus to other parties.
6) Prices and Unemployment: The rise in fuel and essential commodities and rising unemployment and global financial meltdown will be crucial factors, which are of great concern to a large sections of middle and lower income groups. The opposition will try to bank on this issue to put the Congress Party, which is in power in both State and Centre.
7) Free Power to Farmers: This was the main plank for the Congress party in the 2004 General Elections that had fetched the party a thumping victory. Having fulfilled the poll promise Congress this time also claims to implement it.
This factor however could give an advantage to the ruling party.
Cine Glamour: In this election cine glamour is a major factor for reaching out to the masses. Praja Rajyam Party has got Chiranjeevi as its CM candidate and his brothers Pawan kalyan and Naga Babu and his brother-in-law Allu Aravind. On the other hand in TDP Chandra Babu Naidu has fielded his brother-in-law and cine actor Balakrishna and popular actor among youth Jr NTR. Congress Party also has fielded Jayasudha, a Telugu film heroine from Secundrabad constituency. As the elections come closer more and more film personalities will come into the fray either to contest or to support the parties.
9) Cross Voting: Whenever the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections are held in Andhra Pradesh, the results most times have been contrary. The reason for that is cross voting. This time cross voting could be high because of too many parties and ideologies and most other factors.
What ever may be the factors congress gonne win the upcoming election in AP. Acording to my calculation congress will win 182 Assembly seats and 30 loksabha seats. Any one who wants to argue with me i m allways open.

What about my comments on PRP on social justice.?? why it is called Caste based if 73% seats were given to BC,SC,ST and minority so far.
Regarding selling tickets , I think that might be true to aspirants who are financially well-off. But I know atleast 20 to 40 candidates in the list who are not asked for money.
If PRP gets 70-80 like what kumar predicts gone to dogs is state of affairs of AP and chiru will cry hundred times like he did in vajrosthavam and allurvind will become like YS Jagan richest in AP. AS NRI we support and say JP should win. How can he win when we sit at home dreaming of his win when people who vote are actually people who take money many in drunk state. JP should make tours all over state from next year to become CM like NTR in 5 yrs not talk of it in few channels. Most poor who vote dont have TV.
I predict, hung assembly, PRP will support Congress from Outside by taking huge amount (By Allu Arvind), most of the MP will be bought either by UPA or NDA, most of the tickets given by the PRP is for the people who came from other parties, they will not have any sentiment or idealogy towards the party. YSR can easily buy these people and will form the government.

Gross Injustice was Done to Our Rayalaseema in Delimitation. Tirupati should have been divided into Tirupati Urban and Tirupati Rural. And Tirupati Rural Should have been Reserved.
Then, All these parties would have fielded A Brahmin from Tirupati Urban as in The City, Brahmins are over 30,000 in Population. None of The Political Parties including BJP has fielded enough Brahmin Candidates.

I totally disagree with the PRP prediction, they are the spoilers in this election, even though I am Chiru fan, I am totally against his political enter, there is no vacuum in the AP politics, he entered into politics to help Congress, he is a Congress man before, he was forced to enter politics by his brother in-law to earn money. Mr. Ravi.. I differ with your statement. No need to wait for any poitical vaccum if one has good intention. So you say same thing to Loksatta’s JP too? To me, If any one waiting just for vaccum then we have to doubt their sincereity.
Everyone is just talking about collecting funds to party , do you think other parties are giving free tickets?. I think it is not surprising for a new party. Also Loksatta JP in a media channel publicly requested his aspirants to come to his office with atleast 5 to 10 lakhs in hand. and he said that is his minimum expectation for publicity.
Did anybody care about manifesto? “fundamental objective of promoting all-round development, alleviation of poverty and creation of employment opportunities.”

1) Free eduction from KG to PG for econamically backward girls.
2) Also scholarships to econamically backward girls.

15,000 Rs to 10th class pass
25,000 Rs to Intermediate pass
50,000 Rs to Graduate.
3) Pension and health benefits and life insurance to Farmers and Handloom Development.
4) Free 10 hr power to farmers.
5) 10 lakh jobs in 1000 days.
6) Monthly 1000 Rs to unemployed graduates.
Don’t you think these are a little better than distributing color TVs and 2500 money??

Regarding #5. You might be true. But this is little pratical if we compare with TDP’s 50 lakh jobs in 5 years.
Regarding #6: I would say its good one if they restrict that 1000 Rs monthy aid to one or 2 years. I am sure they will add that clause after elections. (It shouldnt be life long or very long…)
Regarding Scholarship , may be that is copied one but really its very encouraging for education. A lot lot better than just giving free money..

IF BJP COMES to Power in CENTRAL: (LOK Sabha)
If BJP comes to power it will bring back POTA. Develop roads & highways which it did in 1997-2002. Less corrupted.Stop religiousconverisons. Encourage the Indian culture. Give more jobs to locals and encourage industries. 2 rs/k rice. Food exports are reduced so that poor can get at a lesser rate.NID’s to ppl.And provide more security to common man. It might have some flaws in its ruling, but the PM candiate is really IRON MAN, next to Sardar Patel.
IF CONG comes in Central:
Sale India to USA. More number of terriorists attacks in more cities like, Delhi, Mumbai,Hyd,Sec-bad,Blore,Chennai etc..Encourage riots and terriorts. More number of scams as usual. Weaking the country in terms of army. All the terriorts who are caught will be released. Will make 50% for muslims and 50% christians. Ban Ramayana, Mahabaratam and say there is no Hinduism as such and destroy all the temples for silly projects. Other countrys might invade our country due to poor ruling.
In one word no use for common & poor man and security as well. U might get Rs 3/k rice at the risk of your life.
IF OTHER party comes to power in central;
More divisons on caste, highly unstable.No care taken for security. A s a whole worst than nothin.

Till ugadi new year TDP was on a roller coaster ride and PRP was low. However there were two incidents which helped mainly PRP on that day. One is PRP getting a common symbol for its party and another, though tragic, Jr. NTR moving out of TDP’s road shows.
However of all the three parties,the infighting in PRP was very high and attracted bad publicity. And as the election dates are nearing slowly TDP+ is gaining upper hand and do not under estimate Babu. As TDP with alliance is stronger in Telangana, he is concentrating more in Andhra and Rayalaseema. Jr. NTR is also being expected to tour for the second leg elections slated for 23rd. With all the ground swelling sympathy and histronics he may sway the voting in Mahakutami’s favour.
My prediction is that there will not be and clear majority to any single group and Govt. will be formed by TDP+PRP or Congress with vertically breaking PRP with support from others. The likely prediction, though hazardous will be on the following lines.
TDP+ — 110 to 120
Congress —- 100 to 110
PRP —- 60 to 70
others —- 20 to 30
However keep a watch as still a large no. of the electorate are not indicating their choice, but are firm in their opinion and yes Money / sarees / liquor is not going to play a major role this time.

Man, Politics is not what we see in television.There is a lot of ground that decides who is gonna win.Let me give an example.In our constituency Rajampet, my relative bought PRP seat for 3 crores.It was cancelled and given to Ramaiah for 8 crores.PRP is pure money politics man.And do you believe the seat was auctioned.Now my relative is ready to spend 10 crores and support congress.This situation in many constituences.PRP will not get more than 35 seats man.Politics is much beyond what one can guess.And will YSR and CBN who have 30 yrs exp it is even more difficult to predict.And do you beleve it was YSR who gave 10 crores to Ramaiah to buy PRP seat.This guy kept 2 crores for himself and gave chiru 8c.Now votes are gonna split between TDP and PRP in our constituency lead to a triumphing win for Amarnath Reddy, CONGRESS.That is politics and the brains of YS.The same in many constituencies.

1. YS Rajasekhar Reddy will change the regious equations. Christians will become majority. I am not blaming christians but the fact is conversions are happening at every village in AP just for money and our great culture is getting ruined. Poor people convert for money. Now Christians have almost increased 10 fold in the last 5 years thanks to Y. samuel Rajasekhar Reddy and all of them vote for congress headed by sonia, a christian again. Christians will not care if the politicians are good or bad, they care for their religion. Hindu is not a religion, but a great culture and we Hindus vote for every body.
2. 99% of people in PMO (Prime minster office) is either Christian or Muslim NOT hindu. All the team around sonia are christians who take important decisions about the country and NONE are Hindu. Ofcourse the entire family of SONIA are christians including RAHUL and PRIYANKA are christians. Poor indians don’t even know the fact that they are christians. These people go to temples and prey just for votes.
3. Congress is surviving on am admi political slogan since its start for decades and we have more than 5.5% of population below the poverty line. Instead of making the country rich, they break the country based on caste and religion. Their aim is to convert India in to Christian country in few years backed by fanatic christian communities.

Hi folks, I appreciate constructive debate on issues that are influencing this election. No point of using abusive language. We all agree that we are all proud of our culture which always teaches us to respect each other. I some how feel that being educated we might be responsible for encouraging caste, religion and language while choosing leaders. I guess we hardly find true leaders since those leaders are from us with biased choices. I believe that we all should choose right person in the constituencies rather than looking at party or CM nominee. Off late if you see media is also very biased and they indulge in supporting directly or indirectly political parties for their survival. We are also busy in talking about PRP selling tickets but let me highlight some of questions I do have about other parties.
a) one of the parties claims of opting for irrigation projects in the state for last 5 years, my question is if that is true why the productivity is going down in turn price of essential commodities are going up. (Eg. 1Kg Rice changed from Rs.20 to Rs.38) b). Ability of leader can be assessed by his Vision, what extent he/she can bring in transparency and accountability. If some thinks that we have good leaders why all welfare schemes are not intended for right people or not able to reach targeted sections.
c) Today the basic need of nation is to build right infrastructure, provide basic needs like education and homes, what all our leaders are doing towards these issues and what is their vision.
d). Our leaders encourage SEZs at cost of irrigation land and discouraging farming which may lead scarcity of food in future.
I appreciate if you throw light on these issues.

This is just my opinion about “Brahmin” with no intention of hurting anyone’s feelings here.
First of all I think “Respect should be shown towards “Brahmanism” and not just towards brahmin caste.” To me, Brahmanism is a religion and not a caste. Any one(from any caste) could be “Brahmin” if they follow “Brahminsm”.
Also your statements on Chiru and Pawan are very baised. Nothing wrong in actors jumping into politics if their attempt is sincere. (ofcourse his sincerity is debatable…) If they were dancing with women means thats their profession. We have no moral rights to suspect their morals with out any base/proof.
My two cents on chiru: Being Cusp of Virgo and Leo(Aug 22nd born) he has split personality. I think, orginially he likes to prefer personal family life than social life. If he wants to choose Social life (Politics) he may take up that just as “responsibility” but not a “passion”. When you dont have passion to serve people than you can not serve people.. So no wonders from Chiru..
My two cents on Pavan:
Though he has many negative points but has few good elements too. Definetely he has a good social responsibility and passion towards society. Look at his friends, he doesn’t have any friends in film industry all his friends are leaders of social moments. He encouraged many new writers in his movies. He has a patriotic song in every movie. His social commitment is not just readymade, we can tell that from his past movies and also at his own movie “Satyagrahi” launch which never took off. But his CMPF got shelved with PRP launch.
Also he has very good knowledge and social consciousness than any other actor. It doesn’t matter if he failed inter twice or thrice. Education is not just limited to the context of getting degrees and qualifications. Education refers to experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character, physical ability of an individual. Also we can accumulate knowledge, values, and skills from books or respected Gurus.
Regarding Chiru Vs Parakala.
Looks like definetely Parakala was very upset for not getting ticket in PRP. Also he might be mad with the final candidate list as it has only one seat out of 294 for his community(brahmin caste). That could be the main reason for quitting and raising his voice. This is successive 3rd jolt to Chiranjeevi from Parakala’s community (Uday Kiran, Sirish Bharadvaj and now parakala)
But nothing can be hided and people will teach lesson to PRP if all those allegations are true.

Of course Tilak said indipendence is my birth right but it seems that we are mis using his statement. So friends wht I am going to say is if you take a family we cant say that everyone in that family is have same mentality like wise if you take society how could you expect that everyone should be hindus or muslims or christians. Thanks for your detailed messages. I agree with most of your views — I see a lot of heat in you guys which I too share. The way you like to deal with these communities is by the emergence of a leadership in AP which would be an Anti to these communities, which will have significant civil force and which will stand as force against such communities. To me, this does not sound like addressing the root cause and I think it needs clarity in vision and mission. I am not saying that we have to be gandhi vadi and all peace only etc… I believe that when time comes we should be ready to do anything necessary but before that we need to do our homework and prepare well.
Lets use this opportunity to identify some high level ideas on how to deal with such communities.
Baseline:
There would be good and evil people in every community. Often common man who is under extreme socio-economic pressures become the means for the evil leaders.
Key objectives:
1. Device mechanisms to control any violence
2. Identify the socio-economic needs of the common man in these communities
3. Give opportunities to the common man to physically detach from these main concentrated areas
4. Dilute the physical concentrations
5. Eliminate the need for the common man to enter any extreme activities
My views on Plan :
1. Identify the key areas of concentration of such communities
2. Conduct surveys and intelligence Ops to Id every single person in those areas and
collect and maintain a complete demographic profile of each person
3. Identify the key businesses and means of money flow
4. Identify the key issues and root causes in very detail at average individual level and where they feel that they are not treated with justice
5. Develop the government programmes that can benefit/help the people and make sure that these programmes need them to physically detach from their geographic locations
6. Identify the key leaders, organization chart, networks and relationships
7. Develop network of informers to cover every galli every home every person so that the enforcement agencies should be able to get intelligence in the right time, be able to forecast/predict the events and take control of the situations
8. Conduct a cleansing exercise to eliminate the extremist leaders one network at a time — break the foundations and means by which these networks work
9. Safeguard and enhance life of common man in these communities
I would support any political party which has this vision and mission.

10. Enforcement agencies should also collect detailed intelligence about every leader in all majority communities also to make sure they wont misuse the minority leaders for political purposes (like creating communal violence etc) — need to cleanse such politicians also

After coming out of state for studies then i realized the importance of hinduism and
got the nationalistic feelings.I feel bad about the situation our country is in seeing this vote bank politics,minority appeasement,terrorist attacks and want to see BJP in power.why does BJP lacks a strong leader in our state?The reasons i think of is most of the AP people dont have feelings of nationalism and dont respect our religion and only concentrates on castes.I hope one day BJP will come to power in AP aswell and first kick this MIM leaders from the state.

No way.. in the last 4 phases, BJP has won at least 160 seats (conservatively).. in the final round, if BJP can push its tally to 175 (4 in uttarakhand, 4 in uttar pradesh, 3 in punjab, 3 in HP, 1 in TN)… that means NDA itself is at 230…. if AIADMK scores 25-30, then together, NDA+AIDMK are already near 260… they dont need mayawati..
They will just ask BJD (at least 10+ seats, an anti-cong regional party like TDP of andhra) to come back to NDA fold - he cannot afterall support CON party - his biggest enemy.
And some small independents too…
Frankly, both BJD and TDP need to ditch third front and support BJP.. or else, they will be forced to support a CON govt which will ruin them politically. TDP using the “secular” card is ridiculous.

May 11: The Biju Janata Dal of Orissa, which had recently severed ties with the BJP, has indicated that it may be willing to return to the NDA in what may turn into another boost for the BJP-led alliance after the TRS opted to ally with the saffron outfit.
BJD sources stated that a change of heart has taken place as the party feels it is likely to fall about 15 seats short of a majority in the Orissa Assembly and the numbers cannot be made up by its current allies, the Left, NCP and JMM. The 147-member Orissa Assembly also went to the polls along with the Lok Sabha elections.
The BJD’s internal survey has revealed that it was falling short of the magic figure of 74 MLAs. The BJD is expected to get about 60-62 seats while its allies may get between three and five seats. The survey has predicted between 15 and 20 seats for the BJP with the Congress getting anywhere between 50 and 60 seats.
BJD sources stated that the only option available to the party was to go with the NDA as an alliance with the Congress was out of the question due to ideological reasons.
Party sources stated that the post-poll alliance would also help the NDA add to its kitty in the forthcoming Lok Sabha as the BJD was likely to do well in a majority of 21 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
- TDP will have no choice but to support NDA. If the BJP can muster 8-10 seats in Andhra then TDP dosen’t need the left any more in AP. whatever vote bank consolidation that needed to happen already happened with the voting.
- If the communists supports the congress , then TDP will support NDA ( not much of choice )
- I would prefer the TDP in state and NDA in the center. From all accounts in the media NDA is on par or slightly better than the congress nation wide so far.
