Chandrababu karath meeting on Third front

Karat, Naidu discuss latest political scenario

Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Prakash Karat discussed the latest political scenario with Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu at the latter’s residence here on Monday.

On landing in Hyderabad on Monday afternoon, Mr. Karat drove straight to Mr. Naidu’s residence along with CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and state secretary B V Raghavulu and discussed the electoral prospects of the Grand Alliance in Andhra Pradesh where elections have just ended.

Mr. Karat and Mr.Naidu also deliberated on the Third Front’s electoral prospects, TDP sources said. Mr. Naidu reportedly told the CP(M) general secretary that the TDP-TRS-CPI-CP(M) combine put up a good show and would secure a clear majority to form the next government in the state. The Grand Alliance would also bag the maximum number of Lok Sabha seats in the state so as to emerge as a decisive force at the national level, he reportedly added.

Every sixth candidate is a crorepati

The influence of money – and not ideologies – has perceptibly gone up in the elections to the 15th Lok Sabha. There are more crorepatis in the fray than ever before.

Cong needs to have upper hand in last three rounds

For Congress, the biggest challenge will be to bag the maximum number of seats in the remaining three phases.
Not only is the party confronted with the spectre of a significant reduction in its seats from Andhra Pradesh, the state which had sent the largest contingent to the Lok Sabha in 2004, it is being projected [...]

KCR T tantrums irk TDP

Voters yet to overcome fear factor in Seema

Polls are worth a fight, but in the faction-ridden Rayalaseema districts the fight goes beyond this parameter. The focus of the fight,
instead, is on one-upmanship and prestige. The post-poll violence in Tadipatri and incidents of bomb attacks and destruction of EVMs in Kadapa district are only the tip of the iceberg, the actual problem is [...]

Who is to blame for Tadipatri trouble?

Tadipatri strongman J C Diwakar Reddy has won five consecutive times from Tadipatri assembly constituency. That he wasn’t defeated
even during N T Rama Rao’s sway in 1983 polls stands testimony to his stranglehold on the constituency.

But things have changed a lot in the fiefdom of the panchayat raj minister in the last five years. If the mindless violence a day after the April 23 polling has put the minister in poor light, what has come as a shocker was JC’s claim that he and his brother, J C Prabhakar Reddy, have nothing to hide and it was TDP’s goons who have spread terror in the town.

Telangana Samithi going the Sena way?

Even as the Telangana issue continues to simmer, suspected Telangana Rastra Samiti (TRS) activists beat up a dozen people who had come for an interview at the Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd’s Ramachandrapuram unit on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

Medak district SP V C Sajjanar said that six persons were arrested in connection with the attack. They were later remanded in judicial custody.

TRS has been crying shrill about ‘outsiders’ taking jobs that were meant for locals and therefore, demanding the creation of a Telangana state to undo this injustice.

Sajjanar said trouble started after BHEL put out the list of candidates for the interview.

Locals and some BHEL employees went on a protest, saying the list was full of outsiders. Soon members of the local unit of Telangana Joint Action Committee joined the protest.

With the situation threatening to get out of control, the BHEL management cancelled the interviews and asked applicants to return to their homes. This, however, did not assuage the anger of the activists, who beat up few of the applicants, which included persons from Kerala,
Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

“They threatened to kill me if I came back for interview at a later date. I will not come back and look for jobs elsewhere,” said Ramana Murthy, an applicant from coastal Andhra.

Applicants from Tamil Nadu lodged a complaint with the Chennai police on their return.
