Congress ridicules review meetings of Oppn parties
The Congress feels that the ongoing constituencywise review meetings convened by the Opposition parties, particularly the Telugu Desam and Praja Rajyam, are a ‘wasteful’ exercise.
What is the use of holding such review meetings with the contesting candidates and other party functionaries even before the outcome of election results, it wonders.
The Pradesh Congress Committee is of the view that the Opposition parties have resorted to conducting meetings to review their performance in the recently-concluded Assembly and Lok Sabha elections due to ‘lack of confidence’ of winning the polls.
On the other hand, the ruling Congress is not particular about conduct of review meetings since it is confident of winning the elections.
Nothing is going to happen on the electoral outcome if the parties conduct review meetings before counting of votes on May 16. It will be very reasonable if such meetings are conducted after the declaration of election results, it says.
The PCC, at the same, admits that there is a need for every political party to have review meetings after the poll results.
The parties will then abe able to assess their position in the constituencies where it stands weak.
They could also assess the reasons for defeat, or even victory. In fact, the Opposition parties (TDP and PRP) have realised that they are going to lose the elections and are conducting the review meetings just to boost the morale of their cadre.
In reality, the contesting candidates who have participated in the review meetings will not be seen at their respective party offices if they have lost the polls, the PCC feels.
The Congress Legislature Party also thinks that the review meetings of the Opposition will not yield any result nor could assess the factual position.
The Opposition parties use the meetings to predict victory and to criticise the ruling party. PCC president D Srinivas had, sometime back, scotched media reports that the Congress had failed to conduct similar review meetings after the election. At the same time, he did not disclose details of any post-poll review meetings held by the party.
“Who said that the Congress was not having review meetings after completion of polls?’’, he countered mediapersons.
Congress party can’t conduct pre result review meetings for the obvious reason - the party and election campaign are all - just one man show. This one man can’t take any criticism or any one speaking against his utopian dreams.
