TRS dumps Third Front, moves closer to NDA. KCR’s bhangra with BJP keeps allies on the edge.
The Third Front seems to be collapsing with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) moving closer to the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and signalling a major post-poll realignments.
The Grand Alliance or Mahakutami is falling apart in Andhra Pradesh, signalling the first major cracks in the Third Front with the TRS preferring the NDA over the Third Front and the United Progressive Alliance (UPA).
“Akali Dal has been supporting us and separate Telanga state for the last many years. It has openly, categorically given an open letter to the Pranab Mukherjee committee supporting Telangana. In these circumstances definitely we are going to support the Akali Dal at the rally. We will address the rally,” said TRS MP and leader B Vinod Kumar.
The TRS has been distrustful of both the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Congress as it was alarmed at the possibility of the TDP dumping it if it is in a position to form the government on its own in Andhra Pradesh.
That is why TRS is displaying its admiration for the BJP policy on creating new states. But the TDP believes the partnership is still not over.
“As a political party you can’t dictate terms. We are hopeful. We are all united and one. Chandrashekhar Rao (TRS Chief K Chandrashekhar Rao) is also interested in the state os separate Telangana,” said TDP leader K Yerran Naidu.
For the Left which even on Saturday insisted that were no dissensions within and that a non-BJP, non-Congress government would be ruling in Delhi within the next fortnight it is a major jolt.
Now, there are fears that fence-sitters like J Jayalalithaa and H D Deve Gowda will also consider walking out of the front. But the Left put up a brave front
“Till other day TRS was very much with the Front in Andhra Pradesh. But if now they are going to join the NDA rally… it is up to them,” said CPI leader Atul Anjaan.

TRS leader B. Vinod Kumar told reporters: “Our main agenda is Telangana…”, adding: “We will support any party that promises a separate state.”
Hinting at a post-poll alliance with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), he said: “We may back NDA but we will see the results first.”
The TRS is part of the Third Front along with the Telugu Desam Party. The Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) has already promised that it would carve out a separate Telangana within 100 days if voted to power at the centre. It has also tacitly backed the separate Gorkhaland state demand in West Bengal. by deciding to mark a token presence at a NDA rally at Ludhiana on Sunday and in doing so also highlighted the perception that the poll race was wide open.
Rao, or “KCR” as he is better known, had made it clear almost immediately after polling ended in Andhra Pradesh that he could support any party that agreed to statehood for Telangana. With BJP having made such a committment, KCR has deputed party ideologue Jayashankar to attend the NDA show.
TRS leader B Vinod told the media that KCR took this decision after he received a positive response from BJP prime ministerial candidate L K Advani. “It was decided that Jayashankar will represent the TRS at the public meeting,” Vinod said. The TRS chief had met Advani a few days ago when he was in New Delhi, according to BJP sources.
The TRS chief is presently camping in New Delhi in order to hold meetings with the BJP and Congress president Sonia Gandhi. “Our leader is open to meeting anyone, including NCP president Sharad Pawar and the Left leaders and find out from them as to what will they do for the cause of Telangana,” said a TRS leader.
KCR has already indicated to TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu that he would require at least eight ministerial berths in case the grand alliance forms the government in the state. “While the BJP’s response has been encouraging, the Congress is still to make an offer,” the leader said.
While KCR has partnered Congress and would have no particular qualms about doing so again, his decision to mark a presence at the NDA rally indicates both an assessment that Congress’s numbers are not working out as well as a signal that his terms must be met swiftly in case TRS was approached as a post-poll partner.
TRS will also be the first “third front” party to break ranks and may well be an indicator of how others may also move. In case there is no prospect of a “third front” or an expanded version of it coming to power, parties like TRS and BJD may well chart their own course. BJD chief Naveen Patnaik on Saturday ruled out supporting the Congress but has also claimed that he could form a government on his own steam.
KCR will have to wait for a few days more for more detailed discussions with Congress and BJP leaders as they are busy with the campaigning for the last phase of elections to be held on May 13. The meetings may take place on May 13 or 14 as KCR will have to return to the state by May 15 in order to be present with his candidates before counting is taken up on May 16. With just one phase of polling left, regional parties are beginning to clamour for their pound of flesh.
The latest to join the clamour is Telangana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS) that will be attending the NDA rally to be held in Ludhiana on Sunday.
TRS leader B Vinod told CNN-IBN that Shiromani Akalai Dal chief Parkash Singh Badal has invited his party to the massive rally being attended by all NDA chief ministers.
TRS had earlier said that it would go with whichever alliance that carves out a separate Telengana state.
BJP has already made its position clear that it will support the formation of Telangana if the party comes to power.
The TRS was a former Congress ally, which then dumped the YSR-led Congress government in 2005, alleging that the government was pursuing anti-Telangana policies.
After it failed to get their way with the UPA government, the TRS parted ways with the alliance in 2008..
The separate statehood demand for Telangana, which comprises 10 districts including Hyderabad, is over 40 years old.
The TRS has been at the fore of the Telangana movement since 2000.
Administering a mild shock to the TDP-led Grand Alliance, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhara Rao has decided to participate in an NDA rally at Ludhiana, dropping enough indications that the separatist party is slowly but surely veering towards the BJP in the post-poll scenario.
The development has raised doubts over whether the TRS would back the Telugu Desam in the event of the latter falling short of a majority on its own or even with the support of the Left. For the record, though, TDP leaders put up a brave face stating that Rao was only going to attend a rally organised by Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal and nothing much need be read into it. But the plain fact is that the Ludhiana rally is being organised as a show of strength by the NDA of which Badal’s Shiromani Akali Dal is a partner. Confirming TRS participation in the rally, its senior leader B Vinod Kumar told Express that they would stick to the Grand Alliance in the State. ‘‘But at the national level, we will support a political formation that guarantees a Telangana State,’’ he said, leaving none in doubt which way the TRS is moving. He further asserted that there was no question of supporting a Congress- led government.
But, the big question is how would the TDP take the support of TRS if it backs the NDA, considering that TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu is one of the prime architects of the third front which is working towards the formation of a non-Congress and non-BJP government at the Centre? TDP politburo member K Yerran Naidu sought to justify Chandrasekhara Rao’s participation in the NDA rally, saying that the TRS chief was responding to an invitation by Prakash Singh Badal. ‘‘Please don’t make a big issue out of it,’’ he pleaded.
Chandrababu Naidu, while speaking at a party review meeting, avoided any reference to the development. ‘‘Neither the BJP-led NDA nor the Congress-led UPA will form the next government.
The Left and other like-minded parties like TDP and AIADMK will come together as in 1996,’’ he averred.
His ally, CPI State secretary K Narayana, was more candid. ‘‘If the TRS decides to support NDA, it would be against the interests of Grand Alliance.
It also means that the TRS has violated coalition dharma by striking at the very purpose of its existence — keeping the Congress and BJP at bay,’’ he said. He reportedly called up Naidu and wanted to know the latter’s stand.
The Third Front, Fourth Font and Fifth Fronts are Fronts Only at the time of Elections and Post Elections, They get Back To NDA or upa leaving the left front as left out front.

Instead of waiting until results KCR stratagically supported BJP for the following reasons.
1. He knows Mahakootami will get into power in state.If that happens and in case if center is formed by third front then there is no way the Telangana can be stopped, so KCR supported BJP so the Mahakootami will be against at state level to Telanga.
2. In case if Congress get into power in state then they will not give Telanga because KCR is in BJP.
3. If BJP gets into power in center even if they want to give Telangana both Mahakootami and Congress whoever gets into power will object Telangana at state level.
If you see any scenario KCR’s move is to prevent Telangan to become a separate state.

Suryateja, In case NDA forms Govt at the centre and If Telangana is formed, KCR naturally will be the CM of Telangana. He hasn’t alienated TDP as of now. TDP fought elections on the plank of separate Telangana State.Why then K CR would try for preventing formation of Telangana?
It is my feeling that KCR really doesn’t want the Telangana to be a separate state.He says that for political advantage but has his own agenda.If Telengana is formed with HYD as common capital then the state of Telangana looses its charm.Telangana without HYD is of no value in my view.
So his move to support BJP at this juncture without waiting for the results looks fishy.
